I kept it simple with a brown craft paper table "cloth" which is inexpensive, customizable and a breeze to clean up. That homemade cranberry sauce sure is tough to get out of those linen tablecloths. All I did was cut off two lengths from a roll of craft paper. To get it to lay down along the sides, just run your finger along the edge of the table creating a sharp crease. I also folded the corners so they'd drape nicely.
Take advantage of the blank canvas and decorate it by writing what you're thankful for or get out the paint brush like I did. I used a little Martha Stewart Metallic Craft Paint in Pale Bronze which I picked up at my local Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores and a black sharpie and gave it a trendy update with a few arrows which are all the rage right now but are also very Thanksgiving.
The pumpkins also got a little update with the same Martha Stewart craft paint.
The centerpiece was a wonderful gift from the high school my husband works at. While it wasn't a DIY it so easily could have been. All you'd need is a small crate, which can be purchased at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores, some paint or stain and a few small potted houseplants. Add some metal trim and a couple dried corn cobs and you've got yourself a perfect fall centerpiece that can survive long after the holiday season.
On rustic woven chargers I placed my go-with-everything Crate and Barrel Maison white dinnerware. I created simple place cards and tied those with raffeta around my Crate and Barrel Buffet flatware (which is no longer carried but is similar to the Cirrus collection) and green linen napkins. The rest of the table decor was sourced from around the house. Simple amber glass votives, two pillar candles and candleholders, an off-white Ikea tablerunner and a gorgeous vintage Swedish placemat were the finishing touches to my turkey tablescape...now all it needs are the drumsticks.
